Janice Thornett (Andrew, 1960) Janice Thornett (Andrew, 1960) represented Australia in Swimming (Butterfly) at the 1960 Rome Olympic Games where she won a Bronze medal in the 100 metre butterfly and a silver medal in the 4×100 metre medley relay. Janice enrolled at Â鶹ÊÓƵ School into 3rd Form in 1958, completed Intermediate Certificate and then attended the Â鶹ÊÓƵ School Commercial College in 1959. At the age of six Janice learned to swim at the Northbridge Baths. Before she was even 10 years of age, she had won her first State title at North Sydney Pool. In 1960 she was selected as part of the swimming team to compete in the Rome Olympic Games. With teammates Marilyn Wilson, Rosemary Lassig and Dawn Fraser, Janice won a silver medal in the 4x100 metre medley relay. She also won a bronze medal in the 100 metre butterfly event. In 1961, Janice broke the world record in the 100 metres butterfly at the Japan/Australia meet and she was also the Australian Open Swimming Champion in the 100 metre butterfly in 1959 and 1961 and in the 200 metre butterfly in 1960 and 1961.
