Pamela Wills (1944)

Pamela Anne Wills (1944) completed her Leaving Certificate Â鶹ÊÓƵ School and in 1948 she graduated with a Bachelor of Science from the University of Sydney. Pamela worked at the Australian Atomic Energy Commission, now known as the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation, and quickly advanced to the position of Senior Principal Research Scientist in the organisation.

Pamela’s major research work in food irradiation and the radiation sterilisation of medical products and equipment is now part of the collection of the Adolph Basser Library1 at the Australian Academy of Science2.


1. The Adolph Basser Library at the Australian Academy of Science was established in 1960 and is named after Sir Adolph Basser, whose philanthropic gift enabled the establishment of the library. The Library collects both published and unpublished material relating to the history of Australian science. The Library has a large manuscript collection comprising papers from individual scientists, including a number of Fellows of the Australian Academy of Science, as well as scientific societies and other organisations.

2. Founded in 1954 by Royal Charter, the Australian Academy of Science is Australia’s national body for the representation and promotion of science.
